International Goof Off Day

Today, March 22, is National and International Goof Off Day. 10-year-old Monica Dufour of Davidson, Michigan, first came up with the idea for National Goof Off Day in 1976.

As the story goes, her grandfather William D Chase, founder of Chase’s Calendar of Events, was giving a radio interview, and he asked listeners to call in with ideas for his calendar. She called into his radio show with her voice disguised and suggested adding Goof Off Day. The local newspaper ran with the idea, it was included in the calendar, and by 1983, it had become international.
